Essential Oil Meditation for Imbolc

Ever since I was a kid, Mom taught me to notice the change of the seasons. We have the Solstices in Summer and Winter and the Equinoxes in Spring and Fall, but did you know that there are other markers of time in between?

Today is the mid-way point between the Winter Solstice and the Spring Equinox called Imbolc (at least, for those of us in the Northern Hemisphere). It's a great time to consider what seeds you are planting, and what you hope to grow.

I mean, what are you hoping to grow this year in your life? Is there a new practice you'd like to take up? Maybe a new habit you'd like to implement? A new project you're beginning or restarting?

Here's an easy way to infuse your intention with some aromatics:

  • Choose an oil that motivates and inspires you. There's no wrong oil to choose. (Of course, if you're looking for one's with certain properties the Aromatherapy Practitioner Reference Manual is a great resource, especially the esoteric index).

  • Sit quietly with your oil for a few minutes. Simple inhalation is all you need.

  • Consider one thing you'd like to bring into being this season or year. Imagine it growing.

  • Ask, "What do I need to know to help make this happen?"

  • Listen within or journal about whatever comes to mind.

You can return back to this oil or practice anytime, especially to revisit your intention. I love pairing scents with intentions as it can help attach emotion to them which can motivate you to keep going through weeks and months.

I'd love to hear what seeds you're “planting” this year. Leave me a comment and let me know.
