How to Work with a Lunar Eclipse

Here’s what to know about this weekend’s eclipse:

Face what you’re afraid of with love and compassion.

This weekend’s eclipse occurs only a few days before Halloween, a modern holiday that has its roots in Samhain, the mid-way point between the Fall Equinox and the Winter Solstice.

To put it simply, we are about to go into the darkest time of the year. For the next 6 weeks or so (in the Northern Hemisphere), nights will get increasingly longer.

The ancients considered this to be the time of going into the underworld.

It’s the perfect time to acknowledge what you fear, embrace it, and change it.

Here’s 3 things you can do to make the most of this eclipse:

1. Let Something Go

I believe that one of the greatest acts of self-care is taking something off your list.

But with behaviors that are more ingrained, you can need some extra juice.

Eclipses are the perfect time to break the bonds with something that’s no longer serving you.

So this weekend, experiment with telling yourself a new story.

Examples:

I used to indulge in emotional eating, but now I don’t do that.

I used to unconsciously interrupt people, but now I don’t and I lean into listening instead.

I used to criticize myself constantly, but now I stop myself and look for something I can appreciate.

Don’t underestimate how much you can change your actions by first changing the way you think.

What would be your new story statement?

2. Pick Something Up

Eclipses are also a great time to see what you’d like to add back into your life.

Take a bird’s eye view of where you’ve been and where you’re going to see what’s missing.

Especially if you’ve let something go, now you have more space for something you do want.

What’s a long forgotten dream of yours?

Imagine yourself on a new journey to creating that dream. How would that change how you spend your time?

3. Take it Easy

Eclipses are not a time to do ritual or get complicated. Especially at this time of the year, many of us are going into holiday season and busy-ness will become intensified.

If you need permission to rest, this is it right here.

The changes and breakthroughs from eclipses will sometimes take months to see.

Be patient. Be kind. Approach yourself with ease.

Take it from your armchair astrologer: This is a weekend to gently step into your soft power.
